the society Roselily lives in is the antagonist, the white, dominant society. she makes her living by working in cotton plucking, in which she earns so mean. however hard she works she would be played very less of which she and her three daughters cannot make a living.

at such a moment Roseily decides to have apeaceful life by releaving herself from the cotton plucking, and decides to marry a black Muslim as she is promised to be taken under cover.
