In Gary Paulsen's "The Haymeadow," the antagonist can be considered to be the environment itself, as the challenges and struggles the protagonist faces are largely a result of the harsh conditions of living on a farm in the isolated Minnesota wilderness. Additionally, the hard and unsympathetic nature of some of the townspeople could also be seen as antagonistic forces in the story.
all i can say is read the book! hahaha
In "The Haymeadow," one of the problems is when John's father announces plans to sell their family farm due to financial difficulties. This creates tension as John feels a deep connection to the land and struggles with the idea of losing their home. The uncertainty of their future and the potential displacement of their family add to the emotional conflict in the story.
