Thomas Andrews was the master builder of Titanic. Not the designer, but the builder. The designer was Alexander Carlisle but Carlisle left abruptly after Olympic, her first sister ship, was built. Andrews started in the yards while taking courses in naval architecture and worked his way up to become master builder.
