The chairperson and secretary general of the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission (SHRC) is currently Professor Deepika Udagama and Mr. Prathiba Mahanamahewa respectively. Professor Udagama was appointed chairperson of the SHRC on June 4 2020 while Mr. Mahanamahewa was appointed secretary general on October 13 2019. The responsibilities of the chairperson include: Presiding over sessions of the SHRC Providing leadership and guidance to the commission Advising the commission on strategic decisions Representing the commission at external eventsThe secretary general is responsible for: Administrative support to the commission Managing the day-to-day operations of the commission Ensuring that the commission functions in accordance with the law Providing advice to the chairperson and other members of the commissionProfessor Udagama and Mr. Mahanamahewa are both experienced professionals in the field of human rights and have been instrumental in advancing the mission of the SHRC.
