No single person or band founded classic rock. It developed from the early rock of the 1950s, which got its start with guys like Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Elvis Presley. Rock music continued into the 1960s with psychedelic rock and the beginnings of classic rock, which peaked in the late 1960s but continued well into the seventies. The seventies was the era of punk rock, glam rock, and classic rock bands. In the eighties it was heavy metal, new wave, goth, and hair metal. The nineties was the grunge era, and the 2000s has been a very, very sad decade for rock 'n roll.
Every era of rock music has many, many well-known artists, and all of them build upon and evolve from the rock 'n roll of the past.
