The Falkland Islands are an overseas territory of the United Kingdom so Queen Elizabeth II is the head of state however she is represented in day to day affairs by her Governor, Since 16 October 2010 Nigel Haywood, a former British diplomat, has been Governor of the Falkland Islands. Internal affairs of the island are controlled by the Chief Executive of the Falkland Islands who is the head of the government. Keith Padgett has held that office since 1 February 2012.
