How was the LEADER of the group who Explored the Louisiana Territory
Meriwether Lewis was the leader of an expedition into the Northern part of the Louisiana territory. The expedition was commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson.
The Louisiana purchase was between the U.S. and France. The French leader was Napolean. In order to fund his ongoing wars in Europe, Napolean needed cash. The sale of the Lousiana territory was seen as a way to further the Napoleonic wars.

Napoleon sold the Louisiana territory to USA which almost doubled the size of the USA. This was sold for a very low price for a lot of land. This was important, because Napoleon helped the USA a lot by selling them this land. When the US president bought it, they were thinking it was unconstitutional, but in the end decided to buy it. This purchase was called the "LOUISIANA PURCHASE!" Napoleon was the leader of France at the time

The Louisiana Purchase took place in 1803. The USA under Thomas Jefferson purchased the territory of Louisiana from France for $15 million (2009 equivalent - $219 million). The territory in question was huge - 2,147,000 km squared. It doubled the size of the United States at the time. It covered all or part of 14 modern US states and 2 Canadian provinces and represents 23% of the territory of the US today.
