Ulysses of course and he is trying to return home to his wife and family although he is also trying to avoid that inevitability and remain a wandering hero. He is just not the sort of person who can settle down. As soon as he does get back home he begin talking about setting out again. He is also a compulsive liar, tells lies and deceives just for the perverse joy of it.
