The only tentative reference is that of Jesus Christ's death and resurrection. In the Apostles' Creed we say that he 'was crucified, died and was buried, he descended to hell, and on the third day rose again'.
However, great debate has asked whether or not he desecnded to 'hell' as we would know it or whether the Jewish 'place of the dead' Sheol) is a better description.
