In February 1896, Guglielmo Marconijourneyed from Italy to England in order to show British telegraph authorities what he had developed in the way of an operational wireless telegraph apparatus. His first British patent application was filled on June 2 on that year.

Through the co-operation of Mr. W H Preece, who was at that time the chief electrical engineer of the British Post-Office Telegraph, signals were sent on July 1896 over a distance of one-and-three-fourth miles on Salisbury Plain.

So we can say that Guglielmo Marconi developed the first wireless telegraph system in 1896.
