The music video to the song "Never Too Late" by Three Days Grace is about being sexually assaulted as a child. In the music video there is an older girl being taken to a mental hospital for attempting suicide. Throughout the video it flashes from her to her younger self. In the beginning her younger self is seen dancing with her parents which signifies how happy and carefree her life was, how her parents loved her. They then let go of her which shows how alone the little girl was and how her parents let her go mentally. A man in a striped shirt shows up then and he is the person that sexually assaults the little girl. You can see in the little girls face how she was scared and didn't understand. It then quickly flashes back and forth from the little girl to the older girl back to the younger girl who are both doing the same thing: trying to hide. The young girl's parents are then seen with band-aids over their eyes showing how blind they were to the whole situation. Back at the mental hospital, the nurses are strapping the girl to the bed so she cant get up, which is terrifying to her. The straps holding her down turn into the molesters hand which represents the mental hold he has on her years down the line and how she hasn't been able to put the incident behind her. It flashes back to the little girl who is hiding from him because of how terrified she is. We then see the little girl sitting on her bed with hand prints on her and everything else in the room, there is black paint on the mans hands. All of this is to signify that he has touched everything in the room, including the girl. There is then a fight between a black angel and the man which shows how child protective services or an organization like it has stepped in to try and help the girl from him. It flashes back to the girls older self and shows her putting everything behind her by the way the man lets go of her hands. When she puts herself into like a ball (hugging her knees) it is to show how hard it is to get past sexual assault, especially when it happened to you as a child and there was nothing you could do about it. But then she gets up and starts walking because finally after all those years, she is now okay and has put it all behind her. So long story short, the video signifies how hard sexual abuse is to overcome, but it isn't impossible.
This world will never be what I expected
And if I don't belong who would have guessed it
I will not leave alone everything that I own
To make you feel like it's not too late, it's never too late
Even if I say it'll be alright
Still I hear you say you want to end your life
Now and again we try to just stay alive
Maybe we'll turn it around 'cause it's not too late
It's never too late
No one will ever see this side reflected
And if there's something wrong who would have guessed it?
And I have left alone everything that I own
To make you feel like it's not too late, it's never too late
Even if I say it'll be alright
Still I hear you say you want to end your life
Now and again we try to just stay alive
Maybe we'll turn it around 'cause it's not too late
It's never too late
The world we knew won't come back
The time we've lost can't get back
The life we had won't be ours again
This world will never be what I expected
And if I don't belong
Even if I say it'll be alright
Still I hear you say you want to end your life
Now and again we try to just stay alive
Maybe we'll turn it around 'cause it's not too late
It's never too late
Maybe we'll turn it around 'cause it's not too late
It's never too late
It's not too late, it's never too late
This song starts out with a young girl happy with her life, dancing around in a circle. This shows them as one big happy family. When her parents leave the man with the sweater comes in and she has no one else so she trusts him. It shows the girl's parents with tape over their eyes to show that they can't see the pain she is going through. The woman being taken by the nurses is the little girl as a woman. She is being brought into an insane asylum because the pain of the days when the sweater man had molested her were too painful and brought her to try and commit suicide. The hands that are holding the woman down are the molester's hands because what he did brought her there. It keeps showing the little girl and they are the memories of the woman's innocence of childhood and how it was taken away. The black hand prints you see show that she was touched everywhere by the sweater man because you see the black ink on his hands. The winged man attacking the sweater man is not a demon as so many others have stated. He is her guardian angel and is attacking the molester (or sweater man) to protect her. As the guardian angel wins feathers start to fall on both the little girl and the woman showing that she is free from this memory of the molester. The woman walks away, smiling, not held down anymore because her guardian angel has freed her.
An anti-suicide song, this is about a friend willing to give all he has to help the suicidal friend go one with life. (thanks, Jacquie - Aberdeen, MD)
