Israel is said to have been brought out of Egypt and planted as a vine on the land but was forsaken (Ps. 80:8-13). Israel was "like grapes in the wilderness" when God found them (Hos. 9:10). An abundance of the vine symbolizes the glorious age to come when the treader of the grapes will overtake the one who sows the seed (Amos 9:13-15). Jesus often used the vineyard as an analogy of the kingdom of God (Matt. 20:1-16). Ultimately, Jesus Himself is described as the "true vine" and His disciples (Christians) as the branches (John 15:1-11).

What does the vine mean in christian religion?

In the Bible, John 15 Jesus is talking about how he is the vine, and we are the branches, some of the branches need to be cut off, and some of them can grow strong and long. He is also saying that we are nothing withought him. We cannot be withought him, if we fall from the vine, we will wither away and die. If you want to know more grab a Bible and go to John 15. To understand what it's saying you should read what comes before, and what comes after the verse.

Where is it said a woman that does not bear children is like a tree that does not bear fruit?

Since this is in The Bible / Christianity section: I'm not sure that such a phrase or anything like it is in the Bible. Perhaps it comes from a religion outside Christianity; or some anti-Bible folklore. The Bible states that a tree that does not bear fruit, should be cut down. It's certainly hard to believe the message that women who don't bear children, should be 'cut down'.A wife in the Bible is described not as a 'tree'; but rather as a 'vine'. Psalm 128:3 calls a wife a 'fruitful vine'.Why a 'vine'?Because a vine always needs a 'support'. Grapes need posts to hold them up. Tomatoes need stakes to hold them up. Likewise wives need a good 'support' system from loving, stable and spiritual husbands. Otherwise the vine will lay on the ground; the fruit being right on the dirt; and is vulnerable to being stepped on. Likewise the children a wife bears, are vulnerable to being stepped on and crushed, if their support system is pulled out from under them. Certainly a good lesson for Christian husbands to consider.
