Paul is not connected to Judaism at all. Neither he nor Jesus appear in the Jewish religion; they are irrelevant to it. The Christian bible portrays Paul as being Jewish, but modern theologians often dispute this. Little is known of Paul's true origins; he said he came from Tarsus, but hardly any Jews ever lived there. He also claimed to have studied under a great Jewish theoligian, but again, according to other things he said, this could not have been the case. Certainly, Paul was ignorant concerning many Jewish beliefs. Paul never met Jesus; after Jesus died, when Paul tried to convince the Jews to worship the dead Jesus, the Jews refused and so Paul went to preach to the Gentiles and Pagans. He easily convinced them that Jesus had been the 'jewish messiah', because naturally they were not familiar with Jewish scriptures and beliefs about what to expect from the Jewish Maschiach. Paul told people that the Jews were 'ignorant' and 'irrelevant' and he claimed that the Torah, the holy Jewish text and direct word of G-d, no longer applied. For this reason, many people argue that it was Paul who was the true founder of Christianity as we know it today. Paul could be called the founder of Roman Christianity, but know that the original church led by the brother of Yeshua (Jesus), James disagreed deeply with some of Paul's teachings. We will probably never know the historical truth about these times because so many Christians were martyred and their teachings destroyed by the Roman Church when they decided there must be an "orthodox" belief.
