Disease and famine were responsible for most of the deaths in the English colonies in America. The second great cause for death was starvation, followed by freezing, and then skirmishes with the natives.
The herds were killed . Drought also added to the death of the herds in some cases,but for the most part the settlers killed off as many as they could because they provided food to the plains tribes.

yes they sure did! about 150+ years ago, much as in the northern US...by the mid 1800's tho most of the buffalo had been killed off by buffalo hunters, settlers, cowboys and you guessed it, indians!... -saskboi
The Bison started to die off because of the white settlers came. They were at war with the Indians so the started killing the bison. Some even killed the bison for game!
