It was the English. The English troops were marching through the town. No one today is quite sure how it really went. The English troops reported that the townspeople were getting very rowdy. The townspeople said that the English troops simply opened fire. Whatever provoked the cause, the British did open fire, and the six fatalities that were caused were never forgiven until the very end of the war.
