Moctezuma encountered Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés in 1519, which ultimately led to the downfall of the Aztec civilization. His reign ended with the Spanish conquest in 1521.
The Aztecs had a lot of enemies and when the Spanish conquistadors arrived to Mexico the Aztec enemies were more than happy to help the Spanish destroy the Aztecs.
