The Confederate attack on Fort Sumter began on April 12, 1861. The fort was forced to surrender on the 14th of April. This led President Lincoln to call for 75,000 volunteers to end the Southern rebellion. Upon that order, four more states joined the Confederacy, Virginia, North Carolina, Arkansas and Tennessee. The attack on Fort Sumter led directly to the US Civil War.

Benedict Arnold
The attack on Fort Ticonderoga was led by Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold on May 10, 1775. They were leaders of the Green Mountain Boys, a militia group from Vermont. The successful capture of the fort was significant as it provided the Continental Army with valuable artillery and supplies for the Revolutionary War.
Ethan Allen, and Benedict Arnold, with the Green Mountain Boys made a surprise attack on the British and took the Fort. The cannon that they took with the fort was later used in Boston.
