In northwestern South Carolina, not far from the North Carolina boundary, near modern day Spartanburg, South Carolina. There is a Battlefield Park there today. The place was called "Hannah's Cow Pens" because a local farmer, a Mr. Hannah, had built some corrals there to hold cattle when they were rounded up. Most farmers let their cattle roam free, and rounded them up when they were going to drive them to market. This battle was a crucial Patriot victory, which, along with the victory at Kings Mountain a few months earlier, and the Battle of Guilford Courthouse a few months after, led directly to the victory at Yorktown and the winning of the war.
