How did the Protestants arrive in Northern Ireland?

Strictly speaking of method, the protestants arrived in Ireland due to an unrelated conquest by the Earl of Pembroke a few centuries earlier, causing unfortunate relations between the English and the Irish. Later, when King Henry VIII declared Protestant secession from the church of Rome, the warring between Ireland and England became a matter of protestants vs Catholics.

Why did sir Walter Raleigh hate catholics?

Were there more catholics or protestants during the civil war?

Protestants, by a huge margin. England, the mother country, had changed from Catholicism in the 1500s. Of the original 13 colonies, Maryland was begun as a haven for the remaining (and persecuted) English Catholics, though Maryland could not exclude members of other religions. There were few Catholics elsewhere in the original colonies, and few came to America before the potato blight struck Ireland in the 1840s. Th Irish began then to immigrate in very large numbers in the 1840s and were the first large Catholic group in the US. Most of these arrived and lived in the north and fought in the northern armies, causing resentment of "foreign hirelings" in the south. There was also a wave of immigration following a number of failed revolutions in Europe n 1848; many of these immigrants were German and some were Catholic. Again these new Americans lived mostly in and fought for the north, and were called "Hessians" by southerners, borrowing a term from the American Revolution.

Do Catholics preach the fear of God as protestants do?

I kind of doubt that Catholics preach anything the way that protestants do, I was raised a protestant, I have many good friends that are protestants (including some who are pastors of their Churches), and protestants use the same words that Catholics do but with totally different meanings. I was in the seminary as a young man, I hadn't been Catholic all that long, and I had a horrible time of it because they were using the same words that were familiar to me, but they meant totally different things. The fear of God in the Catholic Church is a GIFT of the Holy Spirit that you receive especially in Confirmation. The fear of God is the beginning of Wisdom, the fear of God is something we should all be able to understand, it is the same fear that you have born of the love of your parents when you fear that you are going to disappoint them, when you fear that you haven't lived up to the love they have showered on you your entire life.
