If you want the original natives that lived in Virginia prior to the Jamestown settlement, it was the "Powhatan" tribe, named after their chief Powhatan. These natives were part of the Algonquin group of Native Americans. In 1607, the Jamestown settlement, England's first lasting settlement in the Americas, which was made up of English people was founded in the Chesapeake Bay area.
