He was a Puritan who took over the British throne by force and made anything that was "fun" against the law.
All of his laws were undone when the throne was returned to the rightful British monarch.

Oliver Cromwell was the leader of the Puritan movement in England during the 1600s. He believed that Christmas was a pagan holiday and should not be celebrated. He banned Christmas celebrations and instituted a period of fasting and prayer instead. This caused a lot of controversy and eventually led to his downfall.
In the Bible Jesus instructs specifically how to pray. His example is known as "the Lord's Prayer".

It's like Christmas for us. It's not our holiday to celebrate. We have our own New Year as we have a lunar calender, this means our New Year (and months) depend on the moon. So, our New Years aren't on the same day every year if you compare it to the Christian calender. In the Islamic calender they are on the same day.
