The model J C Higgins model 50 was built by High Standard using the FN Mauser action made in Belgium. It was available in 2 calibers, the .30-06 and .270. The J C Higgins model 51 was the same rifle except it had a stock that had a cheek piece and checkering. All of the model 50 & 51 rifles that I have and have had, shot very well.
J C Higgins is a brand name for rifles made by various companies for Sears. Mossberg, Savage, Remington and Hi Standard made rifles for Western Auto and Sears using the Higgins name on the Sears rifles.

i have a 1950 22 j c. where is the model number found. i can not find it. i was told it is model 30 we bought it new
I got mine new in 1956.
