*although different nations had different numbers of chiefs in the grand council, there was equality among them.they had all had the same level of authority.

*authority was shared between men and women.although only men were memebers of the grand council, it was the women who nominated the chiefs and could take away there title.the fact is that the people belonged to thier mothers clan also gave authority to women.

*the clan system introduced by the peacemaker helped to make sure that no one nation would ever be able to take over the confederacy.beacuse people in each nation belonged to various clans, thier loyalty was split between thier clan and between thier nation.this balancing of loalty worked to maintain democracy and unity within the conferderacy.

There chief made most of the decisions but it was the clan mother that choses the chief, after the Iroquois confedercy was created, there was a council that made the decisions
