The first successful attempt to reach the summit of Mount Everest was made by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay on the 29th May 1953 at 11.30 in the morning.
Some people hope the first two men to climb Mount Everest in 1924 were George Mallory and Andrew Irvine, but nobody really knows if they made it to the summit or not.

Reinhold Messner was the first person to climb Mount Everest alone (solo). He reached the summit on the 20th August 1980.The only other person to climb solo is Tashi Changba Sherpa from Nepal who did so on the 20th May 2016.
