Tressy, also spelled Tressie, was originated by American Character, better known to many for their Western dolls (Bonanza) and multi-role Chuck Wagon. Tressy, spelled as Tressie- the name relating to her hair gimmick was later Sold to Ideal Toy corporation when American Character packed up, so to speak. they were only marketed through Sears Catalogues and stores and not advertised on TV as were the A.C . Tressies. that"s the story, rather like record albums on different labels with the same song!

In some of the commercials for one of the sponsors of the Bonanza TV show what was the specific shape of the brand that is burned into the famous Ponderosa map?

Your on the right track, pardner. it was not really an ad or sponsor for Bonanza but a product directly based on the show and a vehicle they used. The add- for the American Character company- mainly a doll manufacturer but diversified into vehicle construction for a four-way Bonanza Chuck wagon with various tops, tail gates, attachments for four distinct roles. the Brand was burned into a block of wood- not a live animal ( for the TV) commercial and simply bore the word BONANZA against an Oval brand shape or maybe rectangular like something on a back of a pair of levis- the familiar ( Tug of War) rubber design.. There was no need to menton the Cartwright family- a chuck wagon would be one of their products- the name literally means one who makes carts- or wagons, etc. Wainwright is similar but would refer to what we now call trucks.=then horse drawn. Hoboken had horse drawn garbage trucks ( Yuck!) as late as l94l, when health dept, intervened. That"s Hoboken NJ. In fact the wagon venture torpedoed American Character- which went out of business. Fortunately, star doll Tressie- not a Western character- was able to (Slide off the Tailgate) and be adopted, commercially by -IDEAL> it"s Ideal.

What are the names of the Barbie doll's horses?

There are several equestrian mounts made for Barbie some by accessory makers not necessary under contract to Mattel. Seem to recall a very Western-looking paint (multi-colored) horse called Blaze. as statd there were several and different retailers had custom shops to match Horse and rider, as it were. There were a number of scaled Western Dolls (the Bonanza series, for example) and their classy multi-role Chuck Wagon, they were made by American Character- the Hottest Brand Around, a woodburned brand was burned into a block of wood Several equine mounts have been geared-up for Barbie and similarily-scaled dolls. Most were made by aftermarket manufacturers such as Irwin. They had various color schemes- paint horse, appaloosa, Palomino. In My Father"S CORRAL there are many stalls, pardner- not all with Mattel Brand. By way of inference American Character went bankrupt following a slump in Bonanza ( ill-named) multi-role Chuck Wagons in the late sixties. the vehicles were piled up at the warehouses. Shades of recent slumps with General Motors. The Bonanza chuck-wagon slump drove American Character out of business- their girl-doll lines such as Tressy, were picked up by Ideal that:s the story Whoa!@TawnySince about l967-68 several equestrian mounts have been made for Barbie, and also inter alia other Barbie-scaled Western dolls- see the question about Tressie, American Character, and the ill-fated Bonanza chuck wagon fiasco. From a Bonanza it went into trap rock! there was a very limited market for the wagon toy- boys don:t play with Western dolls- unlike GI Joe and Johnny Reb, for example and the toy was complicated- at least as much as modern truck toys, that"s another story. There are several Horses made for Barbie- and dolls of the same scale. Most were made not by Mattel but by aftermarket vendors such as Irwin, which if my memory serves me right was originally a hardware concern- Every Bit as Good as the Name- was a slogan applied to drill bits- this slogan also used by a much better known Hardware concern, Hughes Tool Co. I seem to recall a Blaze or Blazer- a multi-color paint horse marketed for Barbie by Montgomery Ward/ Whoa! sorry but that"s all.Barbies horse was called "tawny"These are the horses up through 1999:1971 Dancer1981 Western/Dallas the palomino1982 Western/Midnight the stallion1983 Dream Horse/Dixie the palomino filly, Midnight's and Dallas's colt1983 Horse Lovin' Skipper/Honey the show pony1984 Dream Horse/Prancer the Arabian1987 Lady Lovely Locks/Silkymane1991 All American/Star Stepper the palomino1991 Ski Fun/Snowdance (called Blizzard in Europe)1991 Western Fun/Sun Runner1992 Cinderella/Major1993 Romantic Rides/Crystal1993 Stacie/Butterfly the pony1993 Western Stampin'/Stomper1995 Champion the black stallion1995 Flying Hero1995 Horse and Carriage/Prancing the trotter horse1995 Tropical Splash/Seahorse1995 Walking Horse/Sprint1995 Horse Really Walks/High Stepper the palomino1996 Horse Lovin'/Nibbles1996 The Hunchback of Notre Dame/Gypsy Magic1997 Hercules/Magic Wings Pegasus1997 Horse and Carriage/Songbird1997 Show Parade/Star Stampin' the palomino1997 Walmart Special Edition/Sweet Magnolia1998 Beautiful Horse/Blinking Beauty1998 Mulan/Khan1998 Riding Club/Sweety the pony1998 Riding Club/Sassy the pony1999 Riding Club/Walking Beauty the Tennessee Walking Horse1999 Blazin' TrailsNo. It's name is Tawny.
