An engaged couple in which one or both members belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) may choose to have their marriage performed by any of the following:

-A civil authority, such as a judge

-A non-Mormon religious authority, such as a Pastor of another Christian faith, so long as that faith is okay with performing such a marriage

-Anyone else legally authorized to perform a marriage

-The Bishop of the bride or groom's Mormon congregation, except in some foreign countries which do not legally authorize Mormon Bishops to perform marriages or in the case of same-sex marriages. (The Mormon Church will not allow same-sex marriages to be performed by their clergy or in their church buildings)

A wedding ceremony performed by any of the above people may be performed in nearly any venue the couple may choose, including a courthouse, reception hall, home, outdoors, or a church building.

If both members of the couple are faithful practicing Mormons, they will likely choose a Temple wedding. This marriage ceremony can be performed only by an ordained Temple Sealer or one of the Twelve Apostles or First Presidency of the Church and must take place inside a Mormon Temple. In some nations, a couple must have a civil wedding prior to a Temple wedding, because Temple Sealers may not recognized by their governments to perform legally binding marriages.
