Walter Diemer is given credit for the invention of the bubblegum in 1928. By experimenting with different formulas, he was able to come up with the pink bubble gum, which was first marketed with the name Dubble Bubble. Diemer was born in 1905 and died in 1998.

Bubble gum was invented by Walter Diemer in 1928. Diemer was working as an accountant for the Fleer Chewing Gum Company in Philadelphia. In his spare time, he played around with new gum recipes. The gum he invented was less sticky than regular chewing gum and it stretched more easily. He sold his gum under the name Dubble Bubble in 1928. Original bubble gum was pink because that was the only food dye Diemer had on hand at the time. However he wanted to make it blue because that was his favorite color.
