Yep - done all the time.
A landlady owns the house or building where you live and rents it to you. You have to pay her rent regularly.
The land was donated by John D. Rockefeller. It and the building complex are owned by the U.N. and they don't pay rent or taxes.
Mark Masoud Mirtorabi (CEO) owns Fox Rent a Car.
The owner of the real estate owns the apartment. You can check to determine the owner by doing some research in the local land records or the tax assessor's office.
If a person owns a house they can do what they wish with it (within the law). If they are declared bankrupt and they no longer own it then they have no say in what happens with the house. It is no longer theirs.
The terms are lessor (the person who collects the rent) and lessee (the person who is paying the rent).

Until the sale actually happens, the rent goes to the landlord. At some point, somebody will show up and claim to be the new owner. You might go to the registry of deeds and ask who owns the building, just to make sure.
Collecting the rent and proceeding with evictions are two different processes. Either the tenant pays the rent or faces eviction.
