Holbein. some people say he was in love with anne, so in his painting he showed beauty that others couldn't see, but others say he was told to paint her that way.
Hans Holbein Jr, court painter to Henry VIII.
The famous artist who painted a portrait of Anne of Cleves was Hans Holbein the Younger. He created the portrait in 1539 as part of his work for King Henry VIII, who was considering marrying her. Holbein's depiction is notable for its detailed and realistic style, capturing Anne's features and attire. The painting is now housed in the collection of the Frick Collection in New York City.
Henry decided that the portrait he had been sent wasn't true and that she looked like a horse. They got divorced.
Anne of Cleves.
Henry VIII
The German painter Hans Holbein the Younger.
anne of cleves divorced Henry viii because he wanted a son and not a daughter. Henry VIII described Anne as a 'Flanders Mare': Not a nice way to think of the wife ! Henry claimed he had been misled about Anne's appearance. Hans Holbein (I think) painted a portrait of her that was, apparently, rather flattering. Henry didn't find Anne attractive and the marriage was annulled. After the annulment Anne remained in England and was referred to as the Royal Sister. An annulment is somewhat different to a divorce.
Henry VIII and Anne of Cleves were married at Greenwich Palace.
