Bela Lugosi.
And did I very fine job I might add.
In Van Helsing, Count Dracula was played by Richard Roxburgh.
in a film called Dracula 2000, Dracula was played by Gerard Butler, who was also in 300 as the King of Sparta and in the film P.S. I Love You. Allow me to improve: The above is true, but to answer the question at hand, the actor was Langley Kirkwood. Whoever first answered this question did the right thing by avoiding this terrible movie at all costs.
The Australian actor, Richard Roxburgh, played the part of Dracula in the film Van Helsing (2004).
The first director in the first Dracula movie was F.W. Murau. The film was released in 1922.
Perhaps F.W. Murnau. He directed "Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens" in 1922. This is an unauthoized version of "Dracula".
He played Count Dracula in the 1931 film Dracula, and is the most iconic actor to play the role. When most people think of Dracula, they think of Lugosi.

The silent film, Nosferatu (1922), directed by F. W. Murnau, was for all intents and purposes, Dracula, but Bram Stoker's widow had not given Murnau permission to use her husband's book for the film. Murnau went ahead and made the film but he changed the names of the characters. The Dracula type vampire, Count Orlock, was played by Max Schreck, wearing the most grotesque make-up and looking truly horrible. However, Florence Stoker did take legal action against Murnau and won. All copies of the films were ordered to be destroyed, but luckily for us, this didn't happen and the film has survived.(There is an interesting film called Shadow of The Vampire (2000) which is supposed to be about the making of the 1922 Nosferatu film, and stars John Malkovich, and Willem Defoe as Max Schreck. The unlikely premise is that Schreck was a real vampire.)Then in 1931, Universal Pictures made Dracula, directed by Tod Browning and starring Bela Lugosi.Nosferatu was remade in 1979 by Werner Herzog, starring Klaus Kinski. Highly atmospheric.
Max Shreck played Count Dracula (aka Count Orloff) in F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film, Nosferatu. I have included a link to a great site for everything you might want to know about the film.
Bela Lugosi was the actor who played Dracula in the silent movie Dracula The above answer is incorrect: Max Schreck played Dracula, originally billed as "Orlock," in the silent film "Nosferatu." Lugosi's Dracula certainly spoke.
Many actors have played Dracula on film, stage and television. The first one to really bring Dracula to the attention of film-goers was Bela Lugosi in the 1930s, followed by Christopher Lee in the Hammer films of the 50s, 60s and 70s. Later on, actors like Frank Langella (who also played Dracula on Broadway) and Gary Oldman have recreated interest in the Dracula legend. But to answer your original question, I would have to say Bela Lugosi.
The actor who played Count Dracula in the film Van Helsing (2004) is the Australian actor Richard Roxburgh (born 1962).
