Actor Robert Carlyle portrayed the character of Durza, the Shade, in the 2006 film adaptation of "Eragon."
Eragon defeated the Shade by finding and piercing its true name using the ancient language, which weakened its power and control over the shadows. He then used a powerful spell to banish the Shade to the void, where it was destroyed.

In the world of Eragon, Durza is not the only shade in existence. Shades are sorcerers who have allowed dark magic to corrupt them, turning them into powerful and malevolent beings. While Durza is a significant shade in the story, there are others mentioned throughout the series.

In the prologue, Arya is captured by the shade Durza. In the following chapter Eragon finds a mysterious stone when out hunting and takes it home to the farm where he lives with his uncle and cousin.
Arya is an elf. She is the heir to the elvish throne and carried Saphira's egg. She was captured by Durza (a shade) and Eragon is maddly in love with her.
