What is the definition of the word relative motion?

Relative motion is the concept that the motion of all objects is relative to other objects. If you are sitting still right now you are not moving relative to the earth, however you are moving relative to sun.

All motion is relative to what?

All motion is relative to yourself, as there is no fixed point anywhere in our universe, as it is all traveling away from the center of the big bang. But if we ever find where the bigbang happened, that would be where all motion is relative to

Why are rest and motion called relative term?

rest and motion are indeed relative terms take for example, you are standing on a platform and see a train speeding past you. the train is definitely in motion with respect to you. now, think of a passenger in the same train..to the passenger the train in at rest but he sees the platform speeding past him, meaning you appear to be in motion with respect to him... this concept is very much relative, as the earth like all the other planets including the sun are actually moving. so though the computer in front of you may seem to be at rest with respect to you, it is actually in motion if someone from the moon or some other planet sees it...:-)

Can an object be at rest as well as in motion at same time?

An object can be at rest relative to a second object whilst in motion relative to a third object. For example, if you sit still then relative to the Earth you are at rest. However the Earth is both spinning on its axis and travelling around the Sun, so relative to an observer in space you are in motion. Einstein showed us that all such concepts are relative.

When we can say the object is in motion?

When its position is changing relative to our position. Note: all motion is relative to something else.

What real motion?

Relative motion is motion COMPARED TO the observer, or to the equipment being used to observe the motion. Relative to the driver of the car, his passenger is not moving. But relative to the person standing at the bus stop, the same passenger in that car is zooming by at high speed. Relative to your seat in the airplane, you're not moving at all, and you can get comfortable and take a nap. But relative to anybody down on the ground, you may be moving almost 10 miles a minute ! and you'll cross half a dozen states before you wake up.

Why is it said that motion is a relative term?

Motion is not a 'relative term'. Motion is relative. The book that you're reading on the airliner while you fly to the coast ismoving at 600 mph relative to somebody on the ground. But relative toyou and your eyes, the book is not moving at all, and you have no troublereading it until you fall asleep ... in the seat which is also moving at 600 mphrelative to that guy on the ground. Now comes the kicker: What is the real speed of the book ?Answer: There is no such thing. Motion is relative. The book, and anythingelse, only ever has speed that is relative to something else. And it can easilyhave 300 different speeds, relative to 300 different other things, which are allmoving relative to each other.

What units of time are based on earths motion relative to others celestial objects the year is best defined as earth motion relative to the?

Years are defined as the amount of time it takes to go all the way around our sun.
