Lee proposed the resolution that "We are, and of right ought to be, free and independent states." This lead to the Declaration of Independence to justify the separation to the world.
The Declaration of Independence
Richard Henry Lee was a delgate from Virginia to the Second Continental Congress. He proposed a resolution that America declare its independence from Great Britain. On July 2, 1772, the Second continental Congrees adopted that resolution and 2 days later adopted the final form of the Declaration of Independence.
The Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4, 1776. This was after 12 colonies voted in favor of the motion for independence which was proposed by Richard Henry Lee.
On June 7, 1776 Richard Henry Lee, of Virginia's delegates to Congress, proposed independence, paving the way for the Declaration of Independence.
The resolution was moved in congress by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia on instructions from that colony's legislature.
Richard Henry Lee introduced the resolution for independence to the second Continental Congress. It was call the Lee Resolution and introduced on June 7, 1776.
The man who officially proposed the Declaration, or at least proposed that the United States should break off from England entirely, was Richard Henry Lee of Virginia. This was seconded by John Adams, who was a fierce advocate for separation.
That is a line from the Declaration of Independence. That line was added to the Declaration of Independence, having been originally spoken by Richard Henry Lee.
Some of the effects of the Declaration of Independence are the birth of a more democratic form of government. It also proposed the idea that people were free to live without threat of tyranny. This idea inspired the world, and still does to this day.
