Otto Frank eventually decided - at the urging of several who had read it - to publish Anne's diary.

But no publishers were interested. Then the manuscript was read by Jan Romein, a famous and respected Dutch historian. Romein's review of the book in "Het Parool" immediately caused several publishers to express interest in the book, and in 1947, it was initially published by Contact of Amsterdam.

The diary of Anne Frank is a real diary of a small girl's life hiding from the Nazis in 1940's Germany. Because of this, it has no "Main Idea" per se, rather it is a day to day account of her survival and brushes with capture, all leading up to her eventual (although obviously unrecorded) capture and execution.
