How is food security ensured in India?
1. In India food is ensecured with a carefully designed food security system by the government 2. Thic systen has two components-Buffer stock and public distribution system 3. Buffer stoct is the stock of food grains, namely wheat and rice procured by the government through food corporation of India (FCI). 4.The FCI puchases wheat and rice from the farmers in the states where there is surplus production. 5. The farmers are paid a pre-announced price for their crops. This price is called the maximum support price (MSP). 6. Thje MSP is declared by the government each year before the sowing season to provide incentives to the farmers for raising the production of these crops. 7. The purchased crops are then stored in the graneries. 8.The introducion to the rationins of India dates back to the1940s against the backdrop of Bengal famine.
