He put in his thumb and pulled out a plum.. I read that the 'plum' was actually the deed to a piece of land. Way back long long ago when people walked everywhere it was often the custom to hide important documents in a pie in case you were robbed on the way to deliver them I suppose. Just a pity that this delivery boy got a bit hungry on the way to deliver the pies.
