The royal standard is a banner of arms, slightly different from a flag. It is used by the reigning monarch to denote the prescence of the sovereign in a vehicle, vessel, residence, or other building. This custom follows to all royal residences at home an abroad, on royal yachts and in state buildings when the Queen is inside.
