Yitzhak Rabin (1922-1995) was assassinated on November 4, 1995, the only Israeli prime minister killed in office. Shimon Peres became acting Prime Minister succeeding Rabin, from November 4 to November 22. He was then elected on November 22, 1995 and was prime minister until June 18, 1996. (He had served previously as prime minister from 1984 to 1986.)
