The film follows three escaped convicts on a journey filled with obstacles, similar to Odysseus and his companions facing challenges on their return home. Both stories feature themes of heroism, deception, and the quest for redemption.
Homer's mothers name is Mona Simpsons. We first learn this in the episode "O' Brother Where Art Thou". Homer also learns he has a Half-Brother in this same episode.

The answer to this one is Herbert Powell, who is Homer Simpson's long lost half-brother. Homer and Herb meet each other in the episode "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou" when Abe Simpson, fearing death, tells Homer of his existence. Homer finally tracks down his half-brother and discovers that he is the CEO of a large automotive company, which Homer later makes bankrupt by helping create a monstrosity of a car at Herb's instruction.
In "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" the character Big Dan Teague, not a prophet, is blind after being hit by a branch during a flood. The blindness serves as a weakness for his character against the protagonists in the film.
The time and place settings are different in the story and the film. The main character kills the Cyclops in a different way, also.
