The ''Mars Lander''
The U.S. has sent a number of space probes to the planet Mars. Several have been orbiting camera platforms, while others have been rovers or lander.

The aircraft that have been sent to Venus are the Pioneer Venus 1 (1978), the Pioneer Venus 2, and the Magellan probe (1989). The aircraft sent to Mars were Viking 1, Viking 2 (1975), the Mars Global Surveyor (1996), the Mars Exploration rovers (2003), The Phoenix lander (2007-08), and the rover Curiosity (2011). The aircraft sent to Mercury include Messenger (2004), and the Mariner 10.
Mars
No one has landed on Mars. A robotic Mars Lander was sent to take pictures, get samples, and do other things to provide information. It will be many more years before a human will be able to land on Mars.

Viking Lander 1 and Viking Lander 2 Yes, but there are more than that.
The Mars Pathfinder Lander was launched from the Kennedy Space Center on the 4th of December 1996. After a 7 month voyage, it landed in a region called Chryse planitia on the 4th of July 1997 (Independence day!). Inside the lander was the rover Sojourner, which took 550 images (the lander took 16 500) before transmissions was lost on the 27th of September 1997.
