It was ordered by President Truman and transported in a B-29 plane named Enola gay.
the atomic bomb that was dropped on hiroshima and nagasaki made an end to World War II and set a deterent to the enemies of the united states ;hey
The first bomb was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6th, 1945. The second was set to drop on Kokura, but missed and hit Nagasaki. The bomb's codenames were Little boy, on Hiroshima, and Fat Man on Nagasaki.
The first test was July 16, 1945 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. The Atomic bomb was also used to end Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 & to obliterate Nagasaki on August 9, 1945.
The Trinity test shot was done to verify the Plutonium implosion mechanism. The Hiroshima bombing was the beginning of nuclear war with Japan to force them to surrender.

The first two atomic bombs were set of in the atmosphere, they did not make a hole. Later during the cold war, regulations prevented atmospheric/surface testing and the bombs were set off in deep holes that were pre-drilled in the ground. These holes were as deep as the engineers made them.
The first atom bomb used in combat was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan on August 6, 1945, but the first one the US ever set off was dropped at the Trinity test site in New Mexico on July 16, 1945.
Nobody. They were called Fatman (the Plutonium implosion MK-III bomb) and Little Boy (the Uranium gun MK-I bomb) because of their shapes. There is some mythology that the codenames Little Boy was named after FDR and Fatman was named after Winston Churchill to mislead spies into thinking that the "Silverplate" modified B-29s were being modified to transport those leaders, not a new type of bomb. But this is contradicted by the codename Thin Man (the Plutonium gun MK-II bomb) whose design was canceled before beginning work on the Fatman design. Thin Man would have fit FDR much better than Little Boy did and Little Boy could not have been named for Winston Churchill.
The USSR successfully detonates its first atomic bomb at a remote test site at Semipalatinsk in Kazakhstan code named "First Lightning ."
When people talk about nuclear bombs, they are generally in two categories; atomic and thermonuclear. Atomic bombs are like the ones dropped on Japan in 1945.Thermonuclear bombs have never been used in warfare and involve using an atomic bomb to set off an explosion of a thermonuclear bomb, like a hydrogen bomb.IN ADDITION:The Soviet exploded the largest nuclear bomb to date back in 1961. It was a hydrogen bomb which released energy equivalent to 57 megatons of TNT. Compare that to the 15 kilotons of energy released by the first atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima Japan during WWII ( 3,800 times more energy released). The name of this device was Tsar Bomba, meaning "king of bombs."
Depends on the size of the bomb (they come in many different sizes- bigger is more destructive) and how high the bomb is above ground when it explodes. Most are set to explode when several hundred feet above ground.
