the world would go into an apacoliptic state in short terms "back to the stone age"
In the 1960s and 1970s, computer space was expensive. One cost-cutting measure was to render the year as two digits instead of four. So, for example, a computer would recognize the year 1974 as just "74". This works great until you get to the year 2000, which the computer will render as "00" and mistake for 1900. Why is this a problem? Well, let's say there's a library with a non-Y2K compliant computer. You check out a book on December 21st, 1999. The book is due on January 3rd, 2000. The next day, you return the book and the library computer says you owe them millions of dollars in late fees. How can this be? Well, the computer recognized the current date as 12/22/99, the date the book was due as 01/03/00, and concluded the book was 99 years overdue. Now imagine the same kind of errors affecting other "date-sensitive" programs, such as the computers in charge of bank accounts. The problem was overhyped to the public as a technological apocalypse, leading people to think planes would fall from the sky, computers would explode, etc. This is pure nonsense and no one who actually understood the problem expected that kind of stuff to happen.
NASA did not say *anything* is going to happen. It is just the Mayan's "Millennium", so to speak, and will wind up being a bigger wet firecracker than Y2K. on December 12 2012 the earth is going to have a polar shift which no one really knows what will happen after that NASA did not say this, which is what was asked. No one who knows anything about science thinks that 2012 will have a polar shift or anything else.
No, and no one else has, either. The Mayan's "Millennium" will be just as big a wet firecracker as our own Y2K. This is just another media hoax to sell books and papers and such, just like the Great Planetary Alignment that was supposed to destroy the Earth with earthquakes, some years back. Some "Chicken Littles" never learn, and are an excellent source of free money to a certain sort of person. no not yet that's in 2012
Planet x is the name used to name undiscovered planets that might exist. The belief that an actual "Planet X" is out there and on a collision course with Earth is a different story.

If anyone believes in it, yea. Question is, will YOU panic?
1999
everyone went wild about y2k
According to the experts at F-Secure, the "Y2K Virus" is just a misnomer given to the Y2K bug by media personnel who didn't completely understand the problem.
The cast of Faithy Y2K - 1999 includes: Julia Cencig as Nun Herbert Haider as Devil Gregor Seberg as Voiceover
The biggest one that I can think of is the preparation for Y2K
y2k happend in 2000
theoretically, yes. people thought that the world was going to end in 1999. Y2K means year 2000 in computer. y (year) 2k (2000)
A spall patch was developed that reset the date fields in all applications - it basically looked for the date protocol and set it to **** instead of ** Although it was a small patch it cost BILLIONS to install and and as much to ensure it actually worked.
