The workers in Petrograd. They declared a general strike in march 1917, they were joined by students and white collar workers. The Tsar ordered troops to quell the rioting, but many of them refused to fire on the crowds, especially since they contained so many women. When large parts of the army mutinied the Tsar was forced to abdicate and handed power to the Dumas and Provisional Government.
