Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus was started when the circus created by James Anthony Bailey and P.T. Barnum was merged with the Ringling Brothers Circus. The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus was started to create a larger and more spectacular circus experience that combined the talents of two prominent circus families. In 1919, the Ringling Brothers merged with Barnum & Bailey, which had already established itself as "The Greatest Show on Earth."
