Why is the organization called Catholic Relief Services?

In 1943, during World War II, War Relief Services (now Catholic Relief Services) first began its work focused on the resettlement of war refugees in Europe. The Roman Catholic Bishops of the United States established CRS to help war-torn Europe and its refugees recover from this great conflict. In the 1950s, as Europe regained its balance, the agency began to look to other parts of the world, seeking out those who could benefit from the assistance of Catholics in the United States. The name "Catholic Relief Services" better represented this broader scope of work. You can learn more about CRS' history by visiting their web site: (link below)

How can you get involved with the Catholic Relief Services?

You may find Catholic Relief Services at the first link below. However, I would issue a caveat, many times over the past several years, Catholic Relief Services has said that they are fully supporting Church teaching, and yet, not that many months ago, when the Bishops took up their annual collection for them, there were still problems and documented proof that they were using money to support things completely against Church teaching. Before I send any money to Catholic Relief Services, I would check with your favorite pro-life charity and ask the current status on Catholic Relief Services. They do very good work, but also spend the faithful's money on things completely against Catholic belief and teaching.
