Who stopped the Vietnam war?
North Vietnam stopped the Vietnam War; by winning it.
After the Vietnam war the Soviet Union did not attack or overtly support the expansion of Communism through military means. No war stopped as such but Communist agression was forever checked. Stopping the Communist expansion was one of the USA's reasons to get involved in Vietnam and some argue that the war was successful due to this.
Richard Nixon. Let's be honest here. U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War ended under Nixon (actually, due to the Congressional pressure, specifically the Case-Church Amendment of 1973), but he hardly stopped the Vietnam War. The Vietnam War ended in 1975 with the final defeat of the South Vietnamese by the North Vietnamese Army forces.
Vietnam is a country that is divided was in two, North and South. North and South Vietnam was in war with each other. I forgot what the the war was about. I believe is was slavery. When the war started South Vietnam ask the US to help them and so they did. I believe the war lasted 12 years before South Vietnam stopped the war by quiting. Colin, 12 years old
For reasons unknown, even though North Vietnam and the Soviet Union and Red China stated they were communists, and stated their intent on taking over the Free Republic of South Vietnam, SOME US citizens still believed the war in Vietnam to be a CIVIL WAR, in which communism was not an issue. Another perspective from US citizens, was that the communists were trying to take over South Vietnam, and had to be stopped.
To demonstrate to our allies and the enemy (Cold War) that the US will back up it's policies with force. To stop the spread of communism, as was successfully stopped at the 38th parallel in Korea in 1953. The preservation of the Republic of South Vietnam, from the aggressive Communist North Vietnam.
The cold war lasted from 1945 to 1990; documents formally ending it were signed in 1991. War consists of a series of battles; the Korean War & Vietnam War were "Hot" battles of the cold war. A war between the free world and the communist world. The free world won the first battle (stopped the communists at the 38th parallel); the communists won the second battle (they conquered the Republic of South Vietnam on 30…
The Korean War was very similar to WW1 (trench warfare, first clash of jets (WW1 was the first clash of propeller driven airplanes), both Korea & WW1 were ended by an ARMISTICE); The Reds were stopped in Korea. The Vietnam War was very similar to WW2 (Airborne Divisions created in WW2, Gen Patton in WW2; Airmobile Divisions created in Vietnam, Patton's son COLONEL Patton in Vietnam, etc.). The Reds won in Vietnam.
American invlovement in Vietnam, which escalated into full-scale war, began with an American political idea called the "domino theory." This concept of foreign relations, now discredited, posited that the spread of Communism must be stopped in Vietnam or it would spread to all the neighboring countries and eventually dominate the world.
