During the Battle of Yorktown, VA, elements of the French Navy blockaded the British Navy in Chesapeake Bay. This led to the surrender of Lord Cornwallis to George Washington essentially ending the Revolutionary Way/
The Battle of Yorktown was all about the independence of the United States as a free and independent nation. The Battle of Yorktown began on the 28th of September, 1781. General George Washington, commanded a force of 17,000 French and Continental troops against British General Lord Charles Cornwallis and a contingent of 9,000 British troops.
Britain was unaware that Yorktown would happen. It was a seige of a British-held city in Virginia. When the battle began, General Cornwallis' plan was to keep hold on Yorktwon.
The Continental Army led by George Washington and the French Army commanded by the Comte of Rochambeau.
The Revolutionary War ended on October 19, 1781 at Yorktown, Virginia. Lord Cornwallis of the British army surrendered when their headquarters was attacked during the Battle of Yorktown.
Francis Marion was one of the leaders in the South. He was known as the Swamp Fox and attacked the British in South Carolina. General Nathaniel Green was sent to South Carolina and lost at the Battle of Camden. Nathaniel Green also lost at The Battle of Guilford Court House but at the cost of a great number of British soldiers. This led the British to the Battle of Yorktown where General George Washington and Jean-Baptiste Donatien de Vimeur, comte de Rochambeau trapped Cornwallis at the Battle of Yorktown.

At the Battle of Yorktown the British surrendered and as they did so a British band played the song "The World Turned Upside Down". The Battle of Yorktown was the last battle in the American Revolutionary War.
