The Duke Of Northumberland
When Edward VI died, Jane Grey was named as his successor, and there was an attempt to put her on the throne. The actual next in line, Edward's sister Mary, had Jane executed to stop any future claim to the throne.
She was queen for only 9 days before Mary's supporters overthrew her and put Mary on the thrown. Jane spent her entire life as queen in the Tower of London.lady Jane Grey was queen for only 9 days.Nine days.
Lady Jane Grey's father, Henry Grey, was executed for treason in 1554, following his involvement in the Wyatt's Rebellion against Queen Mary I of England. He was charged with plotting to overthrow the Queen and put Lady Jane on the throne.
She was fourth in line to the throne after her mother and Henry VIII's two daughters, because she was his great niece. If you claimed that Henry's daughters were illegitimate, as Henry himself liked to claim, and as her mother waived her right, Lady Jane was next in line. It was convenient that she should be Queen because she was a Protestant.
Mary I did have her relative Lady Jane Grey executed, after an attempt was made to put her on the throne instead of Mary (Lady Jane was a Protestant, Mary was Catholic). However, she did not generally kill her relatives; the name Bloody Mary came about due to the large number of Protestants she had executed.
This was largely the influence of Edward VI's guardian, the Duke of Northumberland. Both he and the boy-king were cousins to Lady Jane, and Northumberland sought to gain considerable influence at Court by installing a relative of his on the throne. He persuaded Edward (who was dying of tuberculosis) that his half-sisters were unsuitable to succeed him, Mary Tudor because she was a Catholic and Elizabeth because she was not seen as having sufficient leadership qualities. But when Edward died at the age of 15 in 1553, Lady Jane Grey was Queen only for nine days. Her accession was hotly contested by Mary Tudor, who in the end had her deposed and executed, and took the throne herself. Northumberland was also put to death soon afterwards.
Lady Jane Grey, known as the Nine Days Queen (1537 - 1554) and a descendant of Henry VII, was pushed forward as queen after the death of Edward VI, the only son of Henry VIII. In fact the next in line for succession was Mary I, Henry's oldest daughter and a staunch Roman Catholic. Lady Jane's father in law, the powerful Protestant Duke of Northumberland, was the chief architect of this power play. Jane was proclaimed queen four days after Edward's death in 1553, but Jane had just nine days as a queen, and support for Mary I as the rightful heir to the throne saw Jane and the rebels behind her, arrested and imprisoned. Mary was proclaimed queen, and six months later in 1554, Jane was beheaded for treason, along with her husband, Guildford Dudley. Jane was only a young girl, and was used as a pawn in this attempt to take the throne from Mary I.
Lady Jane didnt do anything bad, she was the unfortunate lady who was a pawn played by her father and father in law. Who put her on the throne because she was a cousin to Edward VI and they didnt want Mary Tudor as queen. She was taken to the tower and stayed there a long time until a plot was made regarding her, with out her knowing and the queen Mary then decided to offer her a choice this being -change her religion to being Roman catholic, but Jane was very religious and refused this offer, so she was beheaded. she died 12th February 1554
