=== === According to The Bible, the Jewish people wanted Jesus dead because he had spoken, blasphemy: saying he was God. In other words, it would be like someone nowadays saying "I am as great as God". The punishment according to the Law of Moses is death. The reason he didn't speak blasphemy, is because he was God. How can God disrespect his own name? The Jewish crowd was also spurred on by the teachers of the law, who saw Jesus as a threat to their power over the populace.----This is from a Christian of not Jewish heritage; I am not arguing right now about Christ, but that the Jews did not see him as Christ, and punished him for claiming falsely (in their eyes) In particular we are here talking about the Jewish religious leaders of Jesus' day and those that sided with them. These are the particular people who wanted Jesus killed although many believed on Him and at least considered Him to be a prophet. The Gospels in several places also record that there was a serious degree of envy on the part of the religious leaders as alluded to above. They were envious of His popularity, quite possibly after the raising of Lazarus, who it is stated that they also wished to kill because He was living proof of Jesus' power over death. It is also recorded that this envy was known to Pilate. In a number of places it is also recorded that people 'feared the Jews' referring to the religious authorities opposition to Jesus. They had said that anyone who expressed support for Him would be put out of the synagogue. It is likely that many joined in with the religious leaders because they feared men rather than God and were afraid of the consequences of supporting Jesus..

This is a very controversial subject because there is NO historical evidence that "the Jews" wanted Jesus to die. Most Jews knew nothing about his ministry, and it is mainly in the New Testament that Jews (especially the Pharisees) are portrayed as villains, when in fact it was the Romans who saw Jesus as a threat.

Of course, there were undoubtedly some members of the Jewish religious establishment who disagreed with Jesus or disliked the following he had, but by most neutral accounts, his death was the result of Pontius Pilate wanting him dead, just as Pilate wanted other street preachers dead. A central tenet of Roman religion was worship of the emperor, so Jesus and other preachers were a problem for the Romans, especially those preachers who were popular and might challenge the emperor's power. In the New Testament, it asserts that the Pharisees were the enemies of Jesus, although there is little historical evidence to support that view. I enclose a link to an excellent and factual book by New Testament scholar Amy-Jill Levine, who discusses the relationship between the Jewish establishment, the Roman establishment, and Jesus. Perhaps your local library has a copy, as it is well worth reading.

The Jewish leaders in the temple were all jelous as Jesus was getting more and more popular , so they wanted him killed. But as the Jews had no powerto kill , it had to be passed by the Romans only. So Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 peices of silver. And Pilat the governortried to free Jesus by sending barabas to the cross, but the Jew said tofree Barabas and hang Jesus on the cross.

The Jews missed the point, as Jesus would come to save the world of all its sin. but the Jews thought that Jesus would be a king and free them of the Roman power. . they thought he would be born in a palace, and not a manger. This same mistake was made by the three wise men who went to He rods palace, when they wanted the baby . but because of this countless babies were killed.

Why were the pharisees so eager to get jesus killed?

They believed that Jesus was blaspheming. Jesus constantly said that He is God and they thought that was a lie, which it most certainly isn't, and they wanted Him to stop making people believe Him and turn away from their authority and teaching.
