As a member of the royalist army, AgustÃn de Iturbide was instrumental in defending Valladolid from revolutionary forces. Later, he defeated the revolutionary coalition and crowned himself Emperor of Mexico. Though his reign was unsuccessful, he is still considered a hero of Mexican independence.
Agustin de Iturbide created a coalition which allowed him to become the Emperor of Mexico. He still has a following and not all consider him to be a traitor. He wanted to be a leader and emperor. He just wanted to rule and seize power.
